Brandon Hersey has been representing Southeast Seattle on the school board for a little more than a month now. He's also an elementary school teacher in Federal Way Public Schools, but he took the time to chat with Stephan Blanford last week about “drinking from the fire hose” during his first weeks on the school board. Stephan served on the Seattle School Board for four years, so he can relate from personal experience to the perpetual challenges and moments of celebration that come along with board service.
Think of it as a chance to listen in on the veteran talking shop with the phenom who’s just burst onto the scene. Obi-Wan checking in with Luke during his first weeks of Jedi training.
Or you could just ignore my predictable metaphors and consider yourself lucky to be a fly on the wall for this important conversation between two people familiar with the difficult, thankless work of school board service in the name of equity.
